IN 1988, the Royal Canadian Mint launched what is considered the first widely available bullion of its type in modern times, the Canadian Platinum Maple Leaf.
During the first four years, these coins were available in one ounce, as well as fractional sizes. In 2009, the Royal Mint reintroduced the Platinum Maple Leaf as only a one ounce coin. Legal Canadian tender, the Platinum Maple Leafs are .9995 fine Platinum and have a face value of $50.
The design on both the reverse and obverse mimic the ones found on both the Gold and Silver Maple Leafs.
