One of the most widely traded coins in the world, the Silver Maple leaf is issued and backed by the Royal Canadian Mint. It carries a $5 face value, and bears on the obverse, an effigy of King Charles III. This coin is Precious Metals IRA eligible.
The Royal Canadian Mint includes two special security features on this bullion:
- radial lines behind the primary image on both the obverse and reverse sides are precisely machined within microns to ensure reproducibility from die to die and coin to coin.
- A textured privy mark is micro-engraved on the reverse side, with the numeral “24” that denotes the coin’s year of issue.
The Silver Maple Leaf also features the Royal Canadian Mint’s special Mint Shield surface protection.
History and Significance of the Maple Leaf symbol
The maple leaf was chosen as the center of the Canadian national flag in 1964 and became the official flag in 1965.
However, the maple leaf’s symbolism in Canadian culture long predates its placement on the flag. The country’s indigenous peoples valued the maple tree for its sap for centuries, and the tree’s striking autumnal colors dominate Canada’s eastern landscape. French Canadians even used the maple leaf as their emblem in the early 1700s.
During World War I, the maple leaf gained international recognition as Canada’s symbol when it was adopted as the Canadian Expeditionary Force’s cap badge.
